The U-joint HelmsMate model adds a fulcrum point where the handle meets the tiller itself. This enables simple push pull steering rather than a wide arc with fixed tiller extensions. Ideal for users that want to or have to sit in one spot while controlling the trolling speed and direction of the boat, including bow mounted trolling motors, kicker motors, kayaks and canoes. The U-joint model includes a sleeve to lock out the universal joint and convert the extension into a fixed handle. The extendable models can be shortened or lengthened by pressing on the snap button and moving the inner tube in or out. The handles have been machined for minimal play between the snap button and the outer tube. The snap button design ensures that your steering control is maintained at all times and is superior to twist-lock type adjustments available in competitive models. From a safety and control standpoint, having a positive lock that can’t be disengaged by twisting the handle makes a lot more sense on twist throttle outboards and trolling motors..
