The Kahtoola Traction System was developed by hand in a small family workspace called “The Shop” in 1999 and set the direction of our company to develop outdoor products that matter. The KTS was the result of founder and owner Danny Giovale wanting to improve safety for snowy alpine approaches based on his personal experience climbing, and desire to create a product that would get people where they want to go and add a new level of security and performance to lightweight flexible footwear. With stainless steel spikes and welded chains tough enough to handle any adventure, they are now designed with an integrated toe bale and reinforced eyelets, allowing for a 50% lower profile elastomer harness. DURABLE DESIGN: Each spike is made from heat- treated stainless steel making them durable and corrosion resistant. ADDED SECURITY: Integrated toe bail made from TPU material provides added security and prevents the toe from pushing through the front of the elastomer harness. EXTRA TRACTION: Chain and link components are designed to move independently and prevent snow buildup, while ensuring reliable performance and additional traction. Stainless Steel Chains Welded stainless steel chains ensure reliable performance, durability, and provide additional traction. Reinforced Eyelets Patented eyelet design prevents tearing at each connection point, allowing the elastomer band to be lighter and stronger. Elastomer Harness Elastomer bands have a low profile and are ergonomically shaped for a secure fit that remains stretchy in cold temperatures, down to -22°F (-30°C). - SPIKE DESIGN: 12 heat-treated stainless-steel corrosion resistant spikes per foot. 8 spikes at the forefoot, and 4 spikes at the heel ensure optimal traction that aggressively bites into icy terrain.
- ELASTOMER HARNESS & REINFORCED EYELETS: Using a patented eyelet design, tough TPU inserts reinforce key stress points, allowing the elastomer harness to be strong yet lightweight. Constructed from a durable TPE for a secure fit that remains stretchy in cold temperatures, down to -22F (-30C).
- ADDITIONAL FEATURES: Welded stainless steel chains provide grip and prevent snow buildup, while remaining flexible and highly packable. Pack size: 5 x 3 x 2 inches (30 in3). The integrated toe bail and tough TPU inserts prevent the toe from pushing through the stretchy elastomer harness.
